Based in San Francisco, CA, Parnassus Investments is an independent, employee-owned investment management company offering publicly traded responsible investment funds.  Founded by Jerome L. Dodson in 1984, the firm currently manages five U.S. core equity funds and one U.S. fixed income fund.  Launched in 1992, the Parnassus Core Equity Fund is the firm’s flagship product.  The Firm launched the institutional class of this fund in 2006.  The Fund is co-managed by Todd Ahlsten and Ben Allen, who have been with the firm since 1994 and 2005, respectively.

The Fund utilizes social screening as a tool to align values with investments. The Fund avoids investments in alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons or nuclear power companies. The Fund proactively deploys capital into companies that minimize their environmental impact, have ethical management teams and business dealings, treat employees as partners, maintain equal employment opportunity policies, and support the communities where they operate. A modest portion of the Fund’s cash position is invested in short-term community development notes, which provide access to financial services in traditionally underserved areas. The Fund also engages in proxy voting on a range of areas, including executive compensation, diversity, and environmental policy.
